DE-STRESSING WITH NATURE DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN (by Col. B. S. Lakra)

The ‘Social Distancing’ and ‘Work from Home’ imposed by our Government to counter the spread of dreaded COVID-19 brought our fast moving lifestyle to a grinding halt. In fact, the obsessive globalization coupled with disregard for nature appears to be the root cause of this Pandemic.

We, in SOM CGHS Ltd Dwarka, discussed to convert this DISTANCING into a BONDING with nature. I, an avid Birder, suggested Bird Watching from our balconies as an ideal natural activity. Luckily, SOM CGHS is surrounded by many trees and is astride a beautiful park on northern side and a vacant DDA ground on eastern side thus boasts of rich Avifauna.

To motivate and to initiate, I guided and cajoled enthusiastic residents in watching the ‘Jewels of Nature’. I clicked a huge variety of birds from my balcony at 8th floor and shared with residents. Some pictures of the birds spotted are enumerated below and are a testimony to rich avifauna around SOM CGHS Ltd Dwarka.

Coppersmith Barbet
Red-vented Bulbul

Birding from balcony is a healthy activity connecting us all to nature and ourselves. Hence it is immensely healthy, for kids per se and can be emulated by others. Now, I am very happy to see that residents regularly keep clicking and sharing great pictures of Sunrise, Sunset, blue Sky, Owls, Eagles, Peacocks etc.

Stay Home & Stay Safe.
